Field experiment with Nantong Rural Commercial Bank on mobile banking


In the summer of 2018, Dr Xiaohui Bao from University of Cambridge, have cooperated with Nantong Rural Commercial Bank (hereinafter NRCB) in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, to conduct field experiment and survey for a research project entitled “Nudging  Towards a  Better  Financial Future:  Applying  Behavioural Insights  in  the Development  of  Financial Systems  in  Rural China”, which is funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the UK Economic and Social Research Council. 

The purposes were 1) to collect information on the use of mobile banking services; 2) through experiments from the perspective of behavioural science, to apply Nudge tools to encourage customers to actively use mobile banking; and 3) to provide support to making decision on the promotion and improvement of mobile banking services. 

The field experiment is a big success with close cooperation of senior managers and staffs of NRCB.
